CONTINUING EDUCATION
Massage practitioners and graduates are invited to attend guest lectures, seminars, workshops, and specialty classes to enhance their skills at a reasonable cost.
Tennessee and Arkansas licensed massage therapists are required to complete continuing education courses in order to maintain state licensure. Continuing education requirements vary from state to state.
The Massage Institute of Memphis is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education provider. These classes satisfy continuing education requirements for AMTA active professionals, TMTA, Tennessee and Arkansas massage license renewal. Any massage therapist may enroll in workshops and seminars sponsored by The Massage Institute for continuing education credit. Students of The Massage Institute do not get continuing education credit until after they have graduated and are licensed, although they can use these workshops for make-up hours with the director’s approval.
CONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
The Tennessee Massage Board Requirements are as follows: Beginning January 1, 2003, each licensed massage therapist must attend and complete (every two years) twenty-five (25) hours of massage therapy related continuing education in courses approved by the board. Two of those hours must pertain to Tennessee law. Two of those hours must also pertain to either the management of practicing massage therapy, professional ethics, or substance abuse. Mississippi requires twelve (12) hours of CEUs each calendar year with carry over up to forty-eight (48) hours over four (4) years. Arkansas requires six (6) per calendar year, Arkansas approved or out of state NCTMB course. All massage therapists are required to keep their workshop certificates for four (4) years.
